Guide
Audit business listings before adding more
A useful citation inventory shows where the business appears and which details need an owner-verified correction.
Create a source-of-truth row
Record the actual public name, services and working contact details. Keep evidence of the owner who approved those facts. Do not infer an office from a service-area page.
Review existing entries
For each directory, record the listing URL, account owner, last review date and discrepancies. Distinguish a duplicate from a separate legitimate operation before proposing a change.
Choose corrections deliberately
Prioritize entries customers actually use and errors that can misdirect a request. This guide is an audit method, not a verified list of recommended Chicago directories.
