Guide
Create a reason to be referenced
Useful references begin with material that serves someone beyond the website publishing it.
Identify an original contribution
Look for a documented method, a permissioned example, a useful tool or a clear explanation. The asset should be worth reading even without a search-ranking benefit.
Assess the context
Ask whether the reference helps readers on the other website. A relevant editorial context is more informative than a large count of unrelated placements.
Keep the record honest
Record the source, date, purpose and any commercial relationship. Do not present paid promotion as independent endorsement or invent a connection to a local organization.
