Planning guide

What belongs in an SEO budget?

Compare the work behind a proposal before comparing its price. This guide offers questions to ask, without inventing a market rate or a result.

Start with the problem and the work

Write down the problem you want to investigate. Then separate discovery, implementation, content, and ongoing review. A single fee may cover only some of these activities.

Ask for a list of deliverables and the affected pages or systems. An hourly estimate, project fee, or recurring fee should be understandable in relation to that scope.

Look beyond the headline fee

  • Identify third-party subscriptions and any separate implementation cost.
  • Clarify the review process and the number of included revisions.
  • Understand what happens if access or source information is delayed.
  • Confirm ownership and handover of source files and approved content.

Use a range of assumptions

If you model a potential return, vary the inputs. Website visits, inquiry rate, close rate, and contribution per customer can all change. A scenario that works under only one optimistic assumption needs more scrutiny.

The calculator on this site uses numbers you choose. It cannot predict rankings, traffic, customer demand, or the result of a particular provider’s work.
