SEO audit worksheet
Record a finding someone else can verify.
Use a consistent record for the observation, decision, owner and acceptance evidence. A worked footer example shows how the fields fit together.
Use these fields for each finding
- URL and customer task
- The exact address and what a visitor should be able to understand or do there.
- Observed behavior and source
- What you reproduced, when you checked it and where the supporting screenshot or record lives.
- Impact and confidence
- Why the issue matters and how certain the explanation is. Separate evidence from assumptions.
- Owner and dependency
- Who can change it, who verifies the facts and what must be resolved first.
- Proposed correction
- A specific change to the existing page or component, with an explicit boundary.
- Acceptance and recovery
- The check that demonstrates the correction and the current accepted version to retain.
Worked example: an unrelated footer destination
Finding: the public footer logo linked to an unrelated domain in the October 23 source review. Customer task: return to the ChicagoSEO.us homepage. Impact: the logo sent the visitor to a different website.
Local correction: both logo links point to the homepage of the review candidate. Acceptance: inspect the rendered links and confirm the destination. This observation does not claim that the production footer has been changed.
Avoid a misleading completion label
Mark a recommendation prepared, implementation completed, local check passed and production verified as separate states. A single “done” column can hide an unfinished release or an untested contact path.
